For the most part these confirmed the estimated performance figures. The NASM Fw D-9, factory number (Werksnummer)was probably built at Focke Wulf's Bernburg plant. According to its markings, it was flown by a staff officer of the 4th Squadron of Fighter Group 3 (IV (Sturm)/JG-3 FW190D.

The A-6/R was a night fighter version (Wilde-Sau) equipped with radar. Quite an unusual colour scheme I think - I found it in Adam Skupiewski's Fw book published originally in Poland by AJ Press, Gdynia, in Focke-Wulf Fw A-8 6. Staffel, II. Gruppe. As told by Robert Forsyth in his book Tempest V vs Fw D-9, the first, dramatic, test between the Tempest and the ‘Dora’ took place on Dec.

The painting guide on the back cover of Crandall's great book is a little misleading. It seems to suggest that the national markings and stencils all go on right after the 76 and 75 colors (stage 1), and get painted over with the camo (stages 2 and 3), BUT then seems to show them clear and sharp AFTER the camo is done.

(   It’s funny, but when the Jerry Crandall book came out I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed to learn that “Red ” and “Red 3” were depicted having 74/75 wing camo.

RLM 82/83 are my two favourite late war colours especially on JV 44 D-9s. If I were to do one of theses schemes I would have a hard time trying to get my self to.
